341 Surgical Periodontics
1 hours. Theoretical and practical aspects of complex periodontal treatment with emphasis on current approaches to diagnosis, case management and surgical technique. Prerequisite(s): PERI 338.

351 Periodontics Clinic I
1 hours. Introduces students to the management of periodontal diseases in the context of general dental practice as well as integrating basic and behavioral science into the clinical management of periodontal diseases. Extensive computer use required.

352 Periodontics Clinic II
2 hours. Continuation of Peri 351. Management of periodontal disease in the context of general dental practice. Extensive computer use required. Prerequisite(s): PERI 351.

353 Periodontics Clinic III
3 hours. Continuation of Peri 352. Management of periodontal disease in the context of general dental practice. Extensive computer use required. Prerequisite(s): PERI 352.

361 Periodontics Clinic IV
2 hours. Students continue to improve skills and proficiency in the management of periodontal disease in the context of general dental practice as well as integrating basic and behavioral science into the clinical management of periodontal diseases. Extensive computer use required. Prerequisite(s): PERI 353

362 Periodontics Clinic V
3 hours. Continuation of Peri 361. Students improve skills and proficiency in the management of periodontal disease in the context of general dental practice. Extensive computer use required. Prerequisite(s): PERI 361.

363 Periodontics Clinic VI
1 hours. Continuation of Peri 362. Students improve skills and proficiency in the management of periodontal disease in the context of general dental practice. Extensive computer use required. Prerequisite(s): PERI 362.

391 Advanced Periodontal Surgery Elective
1 hours. Emphasis on surgical diagnosis, treatment planning and technique for inductive, resective and plastic periodontal surgical modalities in a clinical setting. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. Prerequisite(s): PERI 338 and completion of the third year clinical requirements.

392 Periodontics Literature Review Seminar
1 hours. Seminar to review current and classic periodontal literature with focus on topics not covered in the curriculum. Encouraged for students considering graduate studies in dentistry. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. Prerequisite(s): PERI 338 and senior standing in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program.

610 The Biological Basis of Periodontics
1 hours. Current concepts of host response mechanisms in gingival epithelium and connective tissues. Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in the postgraduate program in periodontics or the consent of the instructor.

611 Classic Periodontal Literature Review
3 hours. Historical and current clinical concepts of the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases are studied and evaluated by review of classic literature. May be repeated. Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in the postgraduate program in periodontics or consent of the instructor.

612 Biochemistry of Periodontal Disease
2 hours. A lecture-seminar course that deals specifically with the biochemistry of periodontal structures and periodontal disease, the literature and the current advances in this area. Prerequisite(s): BCHE 411.

613 Current Periodontal Literature Seminar
1 hours. Critical analysis, evaluation and interpretation of current literature in periodontology. May be repeated. Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in the Periodontics Certificate Program.

614 Perio-Prosthesis
1 hours. The design of fixed prosthesis devices are studied and evaluated as they affect the periodontium. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the postgraduate programs in periodontics or prosthodontics or consent of the instructor.

620 Periodontics Clinic
2 TO 16 hours. Students treat a wide variety of basic and advanced periodontal conditions using all currently accepted treatment rationales and procedures. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the postgraduate program in periodontics.

630 Periodontal Treatment Planning/Treatment Seminar
1 hours. Using student case presentations the etiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, prognosis and treatment of a wide variety of periodontal diseases and conditions are discussed and studied. May be repeated. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Periodontics Certificate Program.

698 Periodontic Research
1 TO 10 hours. A clinical or basic research experience related to periodontology and done under the guidance of a University of Illinois faculty member. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the postgraduate program in periodontics or consent of the instructor.
